The room was a premium room (Roy Rogers) suite very nice balcony bathroom had a high step and the cold water bath knob wasn’t working well. The main restaurant appeared closed but there is may other options surrounding the hotel. Plus a Starbucks and an IHOP, a tavern and a Taco bar type setup. The lobby is the best ! Huge and very spacious. Carpets seem to not get cleaned daily we arrived on a Tuesday and left late on Thursday, same small pieces of papers and stuff still on the floors in common areas. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. There was a Alamo type of reenactment going on around 10am which was short but very interesting and informative. The area is exceptional even late at night.

I love old things, so The Menger Hotel has been on my list forever. And yes—it’s beautiful. But she comes with quirks. Valet was friendly, but no one mentioned you have to respond to a random, non-local text and enter payment info to get your car back. So when we’re trying to leave for dinner? Delay. Because my fiancé doesn’t click mystery links (as one shouldn’t). You can charge it to your room—would’ve been great to know upfront. Walking in? Stunning. Antique everything, historic photos, total time capsule vibes. Then you hit the front desk… and the energy drops. Check-in was awkward, they couldn’t find our reservation (it was there), and the vibe was very “this is your fault somehow.” Not rude, just not welcoming. Room 3067: clean, decent size, nothing special. Bed was comfortable. Partial courtyard view, partial rooftop. Fine. Now the “old hotel” realities: Room was muggy, even with AC low Bathroom is tight (my 6’1” fiancé struggled) Shower is basic and takes forever Flush a nearby toilet? Enjoy your surprise ice bath A few extras: Dirty plate in the hallway for over a day One lamp didn’t work Pool location remains a mystery The bar is cool, service is… consistent with the rest of the hotel (present, not warm). Location is right in the tourist area—convenient but busier than we prefer. Final take: The Menger Hotel is gorgeous and worth experiencing if you love historic hotels. Just don’t expect modern comfort or standout service.

Street in front of hotel no longer exists and we spend an hour trying to get there. When I called for assistance phone was answered and cut off. We finally just parked and walked to hotel luggage and all. Never again.

The lobby is beautiful as well as the courtyard. Difficult to locate the valet parking, so parked a few blocks away as most streets are closed nearby. The room was nice, but the age of the hotel shows with regard to plumbing. I am sure it would not be possible to update a historic structure such as this. Loved the adjacent bar visited by Teddy Roosevelt. Our room had a view of the Alamo grounds.

No info given on how much parking was. Didn't realize staying at the hotel meant I still had to pay for parking. 60 dollars is ridiculous. Our bathtub faucet leaked all night, and you could hear it. We checked in at 2;30, and there were plates on the floor of the hallway across the room for us. Stayed there until we checked out the next dat at 11am.

I make sure we book this for our family when we stay in the downtown area. This hotel is aged but has character and is well maintained. Enjoy the fact that we step out of the hotel doors and immediately see the historic San Antonio square with the Alamo.

Room was not clean. Coffee , towels, water, toilet paper were not replinished daily. You had to ask and then wait. Rug in the room was old and smelly. Outdoor Pool área ok. Lobby and older part of the hotel( used to be main entrance) beautiful. Lobby confortable.

Very long, slow line to check in. Room with 1 king bed was the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in, but clean. Bed comfort was average. Tub faucet was leaking with a steady flow that was loud. Not a drip, a steady flow. Maintenance claims "all the faucets leak". The shower head was powerful, but hot and cold came from two different faucets and it was either scalding hot or ice cold. It would also change temperature on it's own. So you are under the water and it goes hotter or colder on its own, makes for a very unpleasant shower. Impossible to sit on the toilet without hitting your arm on the counter. Very tight corner and my arm is bruised from hitting it almost every time. AC cannot go below 65 and room never got below 68, it was not cool enough. We threw our dirty clothes on the bottom of the closet floor and when we picked them up to pack, they were SOAKING wet. No idea how the closet floor got so wet that it seeped into our clothes. Soaking wet, not damp. And the clothes smelled musty from the water that was on the floor. There was no remote for the TV. There were coffee pods, but no coffee maker in the room. The room was clean and valet parking at $52 per night was expensive, but they were efficient. 100% would not stay here again. The Menger's attitude is, "We're an old hotel, this is the best we can do." At $250 per night, plus $52 per night parking, I expected so much better. Absolutely the worst hotel I've booked through Hotels.com and easily the most expensive.
