The staff are the stars here, being extremely friendly and helpful throughout, but the property itself is tired and needing work. Fine for a couple of days if you're out and about and needing a very central hub but beyond that I'd be looking for something a little less rough around the edges.
The front desk is shared with the bar but service was quick and friendly at both, with a limited bar selection and light meals available.
Breakfast is included, and was fairly good - basic selection of hot items and your standard suite of cereals, porridge, yoghurt, fruit and pastries in a self-service buffet. We didn't have to queue or wait around for anything on any day and staff were helpful and quick in clearing tables to make decent use of the small dining area.
Room was usable and cleaned daily but needed repair - one of two towel hooks had partially detached from the wall and couldn't be used, the bathroom door lock was damaged and only usable by force, the threshold strip between the wooden entry area and carpet was missing screws and a trip hazard, and the sofa bed mattress was all springs and no padding. Given its location it's also fairly noisy throughout the day and at night from the surrounding bars, pubs and streets though that's likely an issue with any hotel in the area.
All in all, cheap and cheerful for a night or two with a decent included breakfast, but in need of maintenance (and, I suspect, has been for some time). No regrets, but won't be back.
