Think Faulty Towers and you won’t be disappointed. The reception staff run the bar and everything- absolutely lovely. However, keys given to other guests ( walking in whilst a guest was in bed- totally unacceptable) No working radiators, yet showers scolding hot, freezing cold rooms - used towels for extra warmth, rooms offered to our elderly party down the metal fire escape stairwell - we refused, no working lift. For the price we paid - it’s reflected in facilities. Spotless rooms and lovely staff that tried hard.

Unfortunately in this case you get what you pay for. Whilst this hotel was the cheapest around, it certainly felt like it once you stepped inside. We were told 24 hours before our stay that there would be no food available at the hotel, which didn’t leave us anytime to cancel and book a different one somewhere else. Annoyingly it looks like this has been the case for a while. The pictures had shown the hotel overlooking a lake/large pond but what was there was just a remnant of the pond which was now dirty and full of rubbish. Our room had a window at the end of our bed which was looking directly into another 4 rooms, so we had to keep the curtains closed. Our bathroom had mould on the walls, and despite having an ironing board, there was no iron. The beds have spring mattresses which feel like they have seen better days and the heating came on around 5pm so the room was very cold before that. I will say the shower had great pressure as did the toilet, but the walls were so thin we could hear the neighbours doing everything in their bathroom. Staff were polite but felt very uninterested in our presence. I feel the charm this hotel once had is long gone. On the plus side it is walking distance from The Wrekin trail and the ercall trail with free parking, so ideal if you just want somewhere to sleep inbetween treks.

The lower price of the rooms in this hotel reflect that it is just a bit run down in places small things like new shower rails and curtains would be easy fixes also cleaning up the hundreds of cigarette butts from the floor which were visible from our balcony and appeared to be from the two rooms below just distracted from what is a lovely area. The room was warm. the shower powerful and we slept really well which is key to any stay. There was no food at the hotel when we were there which isn't a big issue and they messaged us prior to the stay but the bar looked open although we didn't use it. We took our dog and appreciate the quoted £20 per accomodation per stay fee detailed on here but were told on checking in it is actually £20 per night! Reliant on the accomodation we paid but having completed the stay we struggle to see why it was per night when there is no daily room service other than a knock on the door to see if we needed anything. Aside from that the hotel is in a perfect location for dog walks up or around the Wrekin or over the Ercall and down into Wellington.

Staff were nice and the hotel has a great location. The restaurant was closed for refurbishment so i had to go out for food, the room had noisy water pipes and the toilet started to leak. I would go back only if there were some serious refurbishment. Fine for a one night stay

First room we were given, the toilet didn’t flush, second was poor… neither had the view stipulated in the booking… sheets and headboard stained… had to seperate the twin beds for my son and myself, and this led to seeing loads of loose cables behind the bed and a plug not secured behind the bed… the hotel smelt fusty and damp, very noisy, two men held a loud coversation outside the bedroom at 1:47 this morning… the wall paper was peeling from the wall… the shower curtain was yellow at the bottom… no catering available and the hotel is miles from anywhere to get any food… Very disappointed with this.

The price is levelled correctly for the cleanliness and quality. Although as a proud/caring dog owner the dust and dirt in the room did not warrant the £20 additional charge for my dog. The hotel food should be marketed clearer. There is no food provision other than going out or ordering a takeaway. Don’t love, don’t hate… but could be an amazing hotel with a slightly higher cost for little more effort on small things. E.g. Shower did not work, dirty towel rail, not enough towels for two people, no spoons to make drinks, no power by desk so had to sit kettle on a chair.
